The gold became rusty, eventually. Luckily silver only "oxidizes" so that we analogue photographers still can produce pictures, for instance with the Werra 2E.
About vintage photography, old cameras, technique
Over 800 years old. Imagine that! (The beautiful Знаменский собор opposite, look below, click on Label Великий Новгород , is almost 50...
I love those old Werra cameras, my brother had one 40 years ago so last year I bought one on eBay. Unfortunately I left it some weeks before trying it, so too late to return it. The aperture leaves open, but the shutter leaves behind it don't, so I can't use it. I believe it's a common problem. Damn.

Mine was a gift from my neighbour! Little problem with film advancing, only sometimes, but indeed very handy - and Zeiss lenses are so bright, always. When a shutter is lost, I spray a little WD40 on it (mind the lens!)(we call that "crawl-oil"). Ruined the Argos, but revived the Retina and the Ernemann Bob00.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenMaybe I'll try the oil route; if it doesn't work, nothing lost.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenYou have a very interesting blog.
