Yes, I had my problems in Florence, last year. The Carabinieri were "not amused", but (I sincerely hope they don't read this...) I had a great picture in the end. Let's be courageous but friendly!

But the Police here are generally ignorant of the law in this regard. They actually can't object to photos unless you are photographing them.
