Dus...?

Komposition in weiss

International effort

No, it isn't snowing: this is the Russian 1992 Свема-fog.
 In the Japanese Yashica635 + Sun tele-aux.
In the German Agfa ISI-K were English 1B bulbs (Atlas), look at the bike-reflectors!
And all this in the oldest city of the Netherlands

Mills around the house

Honestly: I didn't know that there were so many mills in my neighbourhood! Didn't pay enough attention. So this morning I spent a couple of hours, nice weather, good old Hasselblad with two lenses (and that's definitely not me!) and very foggy Свема64.

From top to bottom:

In the village Mill: the "Cornflower"

The "Heimolen" (Heather) in St. Hubert

The little one I like most: in Haps, the "Mariamolen"

"Bergzicht" (Mountainview) in Gassel

Another paint job...

Today I went back to Mondrian's mill (see below) because the wings would be painted. Well, that's a big job.
Yes, I know that the only black stuff they use can stand wind and rain, but wouldn't it be nice, Mondrian's basic colours on her?

The < 1992 Свема 64 did have some problems, couldn't cope with the contrast although born in a time full of contrasts (late Soviet).
On the 1977 Praktica were the 28mm Albinar (+Yfilter) and the wobbly 135mm Pentor, both eighties.

There is a lot to say about this ABГ 1968 Свема, but you'll have to wait till Pentecost. But it's a small miracle this tiny refill survived. Today in the Киев 30 - well, it was of course made for that.

The mill in Linden has, very strange, no real name.

the Morning After

April 1968 FP3 in the 1990< Еликон

This was the 4th in a series of "normal" films, around 100 ASA.
Results: 2006 CBEMA (in Реактив) is too thin to handle and rockhard in contrast. 1968 Isopan (as usual in Rodinal): no joy at all, rather strange because her older 120 sister had no problems. The Ilford FP3, one old, one new box, were as expected: nice fog, nice pics. Better than the FP4 I had recently, but that could be a matter of taste.

And to do justice to the Свема: sunday's picture, this time not behind that half-frame Индустар 69, but the И95, that's 38mm.
It almost looks as if the Свема has a built in yellow filter

1982 Свема65 in the Салют, 8 mins developed in rather old Реактив: crisp and clear, a bit contrasty and the sticky paper had dried out but I thought of that!

A Russian tutorial

I decided to go all the way, today. Wow. Although I have to say that composing this tutorial, with the "help" of Blogger was the hardest part.

So I put my Industar 28mm on the FED, innocent like a child. You can see what came out, do I have to name it? Vignetting, coma, everything that's in the book. My fault: it's for the half-frame Chaika...

So beware: they are on Ebay "for Leica etc." but don't do that! And in July, at last, I got my Чаика: perfect! Very nice lens for half frame.

But what did I know. Took a modern Uсrainian Svema and remembered that double-Ilford, it was sooo thin and floppy. And I was right: the FED tore it to pieces.

The Russian standard-drum. I practised a bit, it's an inside-out half-spiral, a bit weird but not bad once you mastered the technique.

The (also Ucrainian) Reaktiv was a bit cloudy, but I used it as prescribed on the film, 7 mins and the negatives were okay, almost as I expected...

After two days the Fixage was grey/brown - never saw that, but it made the film very clear, so no problem here.

Conclusion: the fresh Svema is dangerously thin, the Industar 28mm is very "LOMO"...
Oh, and the Leningrad worked fine, indicating nicely what I expected.

E The Svema64 was black. Had lots of other problems (see Flickr). But in the end I had several nice images - better than the Tasma65, so I don't complain.

Montagne Russe

Well, a dire il vero: no montagne russe, but a lot of other scary stuff, this week, and look at this sky! Doctor Who came in my mind...
The Svema250 looks very tired, but I did treat her rather mercyless: like 400ASA in Promicrol, but it was just Rodinal 1:50, as usual, so I don't blame her.

The Russian Who Came In From The Cold... (4).

Yes, the (possibly?) younger Svema32 has problems: fog, spots, sensitivity - but it has also that "je ne sais quoi", isn't it?
Both behind the ± 1973 Industar-29 at F4 in a Siberian cold wind.

Russian 3 (Economics)

You can see some of the problems, I cannot believe it's 1993 but look at my Flickr photostream for that.
Also interesting: price-policy. You know those 5-years planning in the USSR, so let's take 5 years before the exp.date. That means Brezhnev in 1968 paid 40 kopeke for that Svema 65. Fifteen years later for Andropov it was still only 50, but in 1988 Gorbachev had to pay 1 rubel 5 kopeke. And you haven't seen this yet, but one year earlier the Svema 32 was only 35 kopeke.
Wild Russia.
