Школьникы

Noooo - nòt the chocolate bisquits! The kids, of course. Ànd my 1966 Школьник. With a problem: a rather strange leak.
Or is that the infamous ShanghaiGP3 again? Even in 1976 Реактив causing problems?
I'll keep you informed.

BTW this детский фотоаппарат can also produce "grown up" photography...

Geography

Okay, children, attention please.
The Horizon 202 was made around 1991 in Krasnogorsk, and that is Russia.

The Tasma 250 film was made before 1990 in Kuybyshev, now Bolgar, and that is Tatarya.

The Reaktiv developer was made before 1976 in Lviv, and that is Ucraina.

For the technicians: I had the "slow speed", wide open (because that produces almost no banding) at F2,8 in the evening sun. The film has the usual problems (as you can see, and I don't mind).

1982 Свема65 in the Салют, 8 mins developed in rather old Реактив: crisp and clear, a bit contrasty and the sticky paper had dried out but I thought of that!

Time-machine (2)

Isn't this great: look at the shoes! Modern again - like they were 40 years ago!
With my Yashica 635 plus Sun Aux, the Plus-X prof a bit older, 1965, but  the Реактив ànd the Фиксаж very seventies.

On the small picture is my first Time Machine: 1946 Perpantic in the 1938 Leica with 1945 Elmar. More info on both: flickr photostream erwinruys.

A Russian tutorial

I decided to go all the way, today. Wow. Although I have to say that composing this tutorial, with the "help" of Blogger was the hardest part.

So I put my Industar 28mm on the FED, innocent like a child. You can see what came out, do I have to name it? Vignetting, coma, everything that's in the book. My fault: it's for the half-frame Chaika...

So beware: they are on Ebay "for Leica etc." but don't do that! And in July, at last, I got my Чаика: perfect! Very nice lens for half frame.

But what did I know. Took a modern Uсrainian Svema and remembered that double-Ilford, it was sooo thin and floppy. And I was right: the FED tore it to pieces.

The Russian standard-drum. I practised a bit, it's an inside-out half-spiral, a bit weird but not bad once you mastered the technique.

The (also Ucrainian) Reaktiv was a bit cloudy, but I used it as prescribed on the film, 7 mins and the negatives were okay, almost as I expected...

After two days the Fixage was grey/brown - never saw that, but it made the film very clear, so no problem here.

Conclusion: the fresh Svema is dangerously thin, the Industar 28mm is very "LOMO"...
Oh, and the Leningrad worked fine, indicating nicely what I expected.

проявитель

This picture is rather special. It's about Western "Pride and Prejudice". Because not only the camera is an old Russian, the 1940 Fotokor, with an old bakelite light-filter for ortho-emulsion, but the film is developed in Soviet developer. Nice and dry, easy-to-solve stuff, decades young. Great.

Назначение Иркутск

Nice weather to test a Svema refill in the tiny Kiev: -5° and rather sunny. The nature in my back-garden is a bit overcrowded, but we're here to test cameras, not to write poetry. And it's a nice morning walk. More Irkutsk? Look below! Больше Иркутск? Смотри внизу! And our other blog / и наш другой блог: http://destinationirkutsk.blogspot.com/

Nostalgia

While I was developing my "Siberian" film, the doorbell rang and there was my neighbour with a cute little map full of AGFA-papersamples. Real prints on real paper; Lupex, Brovira, Record Rapid, Portriga. Those were the days... Thanks, Jos!

Siberian film? For the Russian stuff you'll have to go to my new blog: http://destinationirkutsk.blogspot.com/

1955 смена

"Stalin's Volkswagen" is a very nice, simple camera for "the people". Lubitel-like shutter B - 1/200, Argus-like counter, diaphragm 4,5 - 16.
You need two cassettes because there is no rewind, and you'll have to respool because it's all upside-down (hùh?)
I still had some 1987 Agfaortho 25, rockhard, but the Смена performed very well.
And she is rather elegant!

The explanation for these "strange" upsidedown cassettes: In the USSR it was quite normal to develop at home, everybody did that! You just refilled your cassettes. It's also the reason why the developing times are printed on the film boxes! DIY in optima forma. So hats off for the Товарищы!

Fotokor on high water

Well, the river was still disappointingly low, but I wanted to test the 1940 Fotokor and the sheet-holders for leak&dust. Not bad I think, I will have to clean it (and develop a bit better, yes you are right!) but the 135 mm Ortagoz performs well at 4,5 ( 1/100 on Fomapan 100 sheet 9x12)

OCEHb (4)

To celebrate, today (look below: November Spring), one of the first pictures I made, 1964 with my first Lubitel. Of course I still have one, и её люблю !

OCEHb (2)

This year we had the mushrooms and the warm coats four months ago, and today sunny 14° but next week I'll be drinking Glühwein at the Weihnachtsmarkt.
Na zdorovjè!

November Spring

No - not the weather, I'm talking The PEOPLE. Against, for, or in Russia.
Poland, the Eighteen Thirties, which produced some of Chopin's finest work.
And then the Russian October Revolution that in fact took place in November.
And of course 1989, the end of the GDR - and of great products like the "aus Jena" lenses, made by Zeiss workers. Who, in the sixties, were allowed to construct the remarkable Werra.
So I took my 1964 Werra 2E to commemorate all that.

Marx on Verichrome

I live in the oldest city of the Netherlands. Ulpia Noviomagus, Romans all over the place, some supposed Charlemagne and that's it.
But also Henriette Presburg and Hermann Marx were born here, Mother and brother of Karl. Where the house stood it's all bright and clean now, I prefer the higher part, more like it was a century ago.

Blitzbesuch...

...denn die Sonne scheint - nòch.
Aaaalso: RheinbahnStarbucksKarstadtDrosteKaufhofPuppe. Und die Sonne scheint immer noch. Aber bei Heinemann in Oberkassel wartet Rudolf schon im Schaufenster...
Oja: zwischendurch, leider ohne Gelbscheibe, die Svema64 getestet:

E The Svema64 was black. Had lots of other problems (see Flickr). But in the end I had several nice images - better than the Tasma65, so I don't complain.

Cuijk Spectaculair

Nooo - not the picture, the event was called that way. Great weather, super retro scooters but the 1985 TACMA in the 1957 FED did not perform well, alas. Look for the gruesome details on my Flickr photostream.

OCEHb

Only one guest in the pub; long shadows, reflexions in the rain and a wise cat in the sun. Thursday morning in Nijmegen isn't thàt bad after coffee and chocolate-cake. Autumn.

1957 Kiev 2A, orange filter on the old Jupiter (I prefer the "lesser" coated old one).
 All 1/50  ±F4,5

BTW That´s so nice: the Salyut filter-set also fits the Lubitel and the Jupiters.
