War Horses

 Beek 1914: roaring Germany is on walking distance. We are neutral, but nevertheless: mobilization, horses get requisitioned.
Today, early morning: bikers, walkers, touristic atmosphere. In my wartime Ernemann I have 1949 Ansco triple S Pan, later developed in 1914 Eastman .

1914 Nijmegen 2014

 A century ago men were gathering at this school in Nijmegen. Mobilization. The HBS is gone, some 1897 houses opposite still standing.
The WWI "Trenches-Ernemann" still going strong, Eastman powders from that time also. Then, and now.

1915

In 1915 the Netherlands were neutral, and in Nijmegen the concert hall was built. The best acoustic in the land. The rest of Europe was destroyed by the Great War, Ernemann made this fine tiny camera so German soldiers could make heroic pictures in the trenches...

Well, as you see, the building still stands, nicely spoilt by flags and stuff.

I had Fomapan in the wartime Liliput, developed in Eastman powders from that time.

Frozen in time

I got up early today and went to Crow Creek, (that's some nature in my neighbourhood) to check the animals. Well, they were wiser than me, and stayed inside.
At home I looked if I had any fingers left, and then made hot Russian tea and sweet вареники (that's a rather nice combination).

The Turapan is ± 1945 made, the Stierle developer could be older and the KW.Pilot is 1936. (I had a sixties Agfa Y2 on the lens.)

The result - well, this was the first  pic,  made it yesterday.

And the only one, alas.

I cannot tell you what went  wrong, the guillotine did sound all right, the developer did at least something.

Maybe the exposure didn't reach the limit.

English time machine

Okay, "pietermannen" are very Dutch, but the 1962 Royal X, the 1950 Agifold and of course the over seven decades old Tabloid developer are all vèry stiff upper lip, and going vèry strong - including fog.

1949

The camera: Argoflex EF, the metal one, from 1949. I ripped the 620 cradle out and now use it (mostly) with 120 film.

But not today: Ansco Triple S pan, because it's also 1949 and still is fine! I cut one sheet to fit, it's curly and foggy but so am I.

The house: also changed over the years, but still the house were I was born. In 1949.

Eine deutsche Zeitmaschine.

 Jaaa, der Käfer ist bloss retro, aber das bin ich ja selber auch, irgendwie. Von heute, und von gestern.
"Das werden wohl àndere Bilder als digital?" fragt er. "Licht, sag'ich, Licht und meine Jugend. Damals."
Ansonsten ist es mal wieder ein Blitzbesuch, zu heiss für langes Spazieren.

Apropos damals: die von der Rheinischen Post ist wenigstens noch gelb. So'n Bissken.

100! Jubilee!

This is the 100th film I tested, so I took something special: the only 12th lot of 1975 Тасма (probably, no name on the box) B&W reversal.

Millacle

This (again...) is very, very special. I still had one fourties Agfa/Perutz and today I also had the courage to use it.

 And yes: the same happened as over a year ago: brittle film, gelatine went her own way and anti-halo the other.
  But this time I was prepared (which in fact only meant I didn't panic when I saw the mess...) So I had my glass plate ready, managed to catch some gelatine (in the fishing-process I over-stretched the film to 8cm, so later little cracks appeared when drying) and there it is: another time machine.
The "White Mill" was built in 1760, the KW Pilot in 1936, and the (1946?) film was developed in Ansco Vividol, at least 40 years old.
(No, this mill doesn't turn the "wrong" way, it's the mirrored result of "fishing and scanning".)

Another time machine

The mill is on the street where I was born, the camera is the ± 1930 Agfa Billy and the film is Isopan from pre-november 1966.
Yesterday's younger 135 Isopan was black, so this one was an easter-egg.

Isn't this great: look at the shoes! Modern again - like they were 40 years ago!

With my Yashica 635 plus Sun Aux, the Plus-X prof a bit older, 1965, but  the Реактив ànd the Фиксаж very seventies.
