And comparing 1951 and 1991 KODAK Panatomic-X 135. Huge loss of sensitivity in those sixty+ years, very curly (newton-figures in the scanner) but ±3 secs at 5,6 gave an image. Small pic: Who decided why to turn that text around?
Educated guess: in the early fifties it was easier to load the average 35mm camera with the left side facing you. So when you drop in the cassette, the text is readable. Leica speed load? To be honest, you've seen far more camera's then I did, and you certainly loaded more camera's with film than I did, so you should be able to say if my guess is total nonsens or not... Noooo. You are very educated, but the guess proves to be false: I had a look and modern Kodak is left and/or right ( like lactic acid! ) and my old Ilford is vertical. BTW I'm more the panther-lover (below)...
